The fast-paced sport of Roller Hockey is experiencing rapid growth which plays out of the Skate Victoria Rink Dandenong & Skateworld Mordialloc.

Roller Hockey is a test of skill, rather than physicality. There’s no rough contact, players give up fouls like basketball for major contact.  A league competition is held throughout the year for both Junior and Seniors. 

Over the Australia Day week-end players from across the globe compete for the coveted Australia Day Cup held at SV Rink Dandenong – Dandenong Showgrounds – Greaves Reserve.

The Aim of the Game: Roller Hockey

Roller Hockey is a fast, exciting, non-contact game, played by two teams. Boys, girls, men and women of all ages can play the game. Roller Hockey can be played either indoors or outdoors. The team scoring the most goals at the end of the game wins.

Five players, including a goalkeeper, per team at any one time on the rink

Four players and a goalkeeper on the bench

No limit on rotations

Half way is an anti-play line

45 second shot clock

‘High ball’ called for balls lifted above waist height

Automatic penalty for 10 team fouls

Ball is similar size to a field hockey ball, but is softer and more rubbery

What is needed to play?
The basic requirements are a pair of good quality skates (either inline or traditional quad skates), a rink hockey stick, shin pads, kneepads, gloves and loin protection. The goal keeper has special requirements and wears leather leg pads, broader thicker gloves, shoulder and arm protection. The goalkeeper’s face is covered with a firm wire mask and helmet.
