Skate Victoria proud to offer skating opportunities for all kids.
Kids from Bulleen Heights Special School recently enjoyed two days of fun skating at their school.
The children, most of them had never skated before, were able to have a try at learning to skate,
with rollerblades & safety equipment, all provided by Skate Victoria.
Autisim presents enormous challenges in every day life, challenges that we in the community, may not always think of.
Learning to skate (whilst not an everyday challenge), was certainly a different type of challenge for some, a few kids were understandably apprehensive, whilst others just took off, unassisted.
The big smiles on kids faces, continual laughter and gratitude by the schools teachers, reinforced to us, that Skate Victoria had provided a worthy community service to kids, who may not have been able to access such opportunities normally.
An interesting fact :- Do you know that autism actually affects more boys than girls ??…..

92 Skaters and Coaches attended and participated in the 2012 1st Annual Summer Sk8 Camp, supported by Skate Victoria. Leading Italian trainer CRISTINA MORETTI attracted the big numbers to the Dandenong Netball Stadium and SV Venue ‘The Shed’ for the camp run by Jayson Sutcliffe, “The kids have benefited greatly from this unique opportunity and the feedback has been phenomenal”. Cristina has confirmed her participation in the camp again in 2013 and plans to work with the skaters in 2012 as an ongoing commitment to our pursuit in excellence. Sutcliffe explains “it is absolutely imperative that we give our skaters and coaches this exposure to international techniques and trends that are not comprehensively taught in our country and with support from such an amazing trainer from Italy we only enhance our chances of being competitive in the future”.
The success of the camp will ensure its future and the ongoing benefits and support provided by Skate Victoria to its athletes. Congratulations to all skaters and coaches who participated and we hope you enjoyed the experience.

The International Roller Cup was held in Modena, Italy on December 4 and Victoria’s Jayson Sutcliffe was there as guest commentator for ESPN3 covering the show alongside USA Roller Sports Artistic Director Jane Wojnarowsky. The show was broadcast live across the USA and online, and also attracted a capacity crowd at the Palapannini Stadium with more than 3,000 spectators. The IRC consists of 16 of the best skaters selected from around the world and they compete in teams of four for the grand prize. They are given music only 48hrs prior to the show and are required to make up the routines and group medleys upon arrival. Proving to be a hit, the format has been in production for the past three years with Italian celebrity host Paolo Belli (host of Dancing with the Stars). Sutcliffe will return in 2012 as commentator for the cup and hopes the show will expand even further and come to Australia in the future.
